Benzoyl peroxide

Products containing this ingredient can be used directly on skin. Using Tretinoin alone can cause side-effects, hence prefer products that contain benzoyl peroxide and tretinoin together.
Triclosan
Triclosan, when used in higher concentrations can kill bacteria and skin cells. In lower concentrations it kills bacteria by causes them to starve. You should not consider products that contain Triclosan as primary active ingredient as if used in high concentrations it can damages the skin, while in low concentrations it has no effect. Use products that contain Triclosan, but also have above mentioned ingredients.
Tea tree oil
For those looking out for herbal products, rely on lotions and creams that contain tea tree oil. Like benzoyl peroxide, it kills acne bacteria and is anti-inflammatory. Tea tree oil does not dry out the skin. You can easily find cleansers, creams and lotions that contain tea tree oil.
