4 ingredients to look out for in anti-acne treatment

Acne is a common skin problem and it is quite easy to find an anti-acne treatment. From over-the-counter drugs to herbal treatments, there are numerous products available on the market that claim to reduce the inflammation and other signs of acne. But, how do you know the product that you are picking from the store will work for you? It can be hard to find right acne treatment if you aren’t aware of what you need. Here are three ingredients that you should look out for in an acne treatment:

Benzoyl peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide is the active ingredient in the most of acne products as it helps kill bacteria and reduce the sensitivity of the skin. You can buy products containing Benzoyl peroxide over-the-counter or get them by prescription. Some of the popular acne products containing this ingredient are Trioxil Anti Acne Gel and Revitol Acnezine. Almost all the bacteria in pores die within 48 hours of exposure to this ingredient.

Tretinoin

Tretinoin, the active ingredient in topical Retin-A, is a potent acne treatment. It stimulates skin growth and reverses sensitivity caused by bacteria. Products containing this ingredient can be used directly on skin. Using Tretinoin alone can cause side-effects, hence prefer products that contain benzoyl peroxide and tretinoin together.

Triclosan

Triclosan, when used in higher concentrations can kill bacteria and skin cells. In lower concentrations it kills bacteria by causes them to starve. You should not consider products that contain Triclosan as primary active ingredient as if used in high concentrations it can damages the skin, while in low concentrations it has no effect. Use products that contain Triclosan, but also have above mentioned ingredients.

Tea tree oil

For those looking out for herbal products, rely on lotions and creams that contain tea tree oil. Like benzoyl peroxide, it kills acne bacteria and is anti-inflammatory. Tea tree oil does not dry out the skin. You can easily find cleansers, creams and lotions that contain tea tree oil.
